Gather the kids around the table this Easter and make the cute coconut chick cake balls from Hungry Happenings. The process to making these decorated cake balls is very similar to that of cake pops. You can use boxed cake or your favorite homemade cake recipe for this project Cake crumbs and frosting are combined are shaped into a ball before being dipped in candy melts (white chocolate would also work). Sweetened shredded coconut is tossed with yellow food coloring to make the feathers and orange candy melts for the beak and feet. Coconut chick balls are a fun Easter baking project.
Ingredients:
24 ounces melted white confectionery coating/candy melts
orange candy coloring (not liquid)
1 baked cake, any flavor
1/4 cup - 1/2 cup white frosting
4 cups shredded coconut
yellow liquid food coloring
80 candy eyes
Supplies Needed:
parchment paper
baking sheets
mixing bowl and spoon or a stand mixer or food processor
disposable pastry bag, zip top bag, or a squeeze bottle fitted with a small round pastry tip
zip top bags used to color your coconut
optional: #18 mini ice cream scoop (a heaping tablespoon)
fork or chocolate dipping fork
