Mamma Chia, a healthy foods company, has exploded with an array of products centered around the little black seed. They sell anything from chia drinks, chia granola and chia squeeze pouches and more. Their products are tasty and convenient but also come with a hefty price tag. But have no fear. You can get your chia fix and have money in your wallet with this copycat version for homemade chia squeeze pouches. When chia seeds get wet, they absorbs the liquid which causes a bead of gel to form around the seed. You will need to form this gel (by mixing the seeds in water or other liquid) to make these pouches. To get the best results, mix the seeds and the liquid in a sealable jar and let them rest overnight. In the morning, you can combine the gel with juice and pour them in plastic pouches to enjoy throughout the week. Watch the video below to learn how to make this easy and nutritious snack at home.
*Note: You can mix the chia gel with a variety of fruit juices or kombucha for an instant healthy drink. Also, Chia gel can be made with coconut milk, cow's milk or even nut milks to create a rich and delicious pudding. Serve the pudding with your favorite chopped fruits.
