About
A cereal grain that was domesticated in Mesoamerica then spread throughout the American continents. It is the most widely grown crop in the Americas. The term maize comes from the Spanish word "maiz", which was the most common form heard in the United Kingdom. In Canada and the U.S. it is simply known as "corn", which was shortened from "Indian Corn". Nowadays, Indian Corn is used in Canada and the U.S. to describe the multi-colored cultivar.
