Dessert wine is typically a variety of sweet wine served with dessert. They are often high quality wines due to the fact that they require longer fermenting and aging periods. Dessert wines can have notes of citrus, berry, or caramel, and can be paired with desserts accordingly.
There are generally two types of dessert wine - fortified and unfortified. Fortified wines have brandy or other type of spirit added after fermentation while unfortified wines have high concentrations of unfermented juice. Dessert wines typically have a high alcoholic content of between 17%% to 24%%.
