Buttermilk Coffee Cake

Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cups buttermilk (or milk with 1 tbs lemon juice or

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Grease the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch baking pan; set aside.

In a large bowl combine flour, sugar and salt.

Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; set aside 1/2 cup.

Stir baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg into remaining crumb mixture.

In a medium bowl combine eggs and buttermilk.

Add egg mixture to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened.

Spoon batter into prepared pan.

Stir together reserved crumb mixture and nuts and sprinkle over batter.

Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Cool slightly and serve warm.
