Assembly Line Cookies

Ingredients
1 cup butter
1 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3 1/4 cups flour
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, salt and baking soda; beat well. Gradually add flour to make a stiff dough. Chill at least 1 hour. Roll out one cup dough ΒΌ-inch thick on ungreased cookie sheet to 12 x 3 1/2-inch strips. Trim edges. Cut in strips, triangles or squares. Decorate with nuts, cherry pieces or decorettes. (Or frost and decorate immediately after baking). Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Immediately cut through where marked.
