Quick, Easy, Tasty Dinner- Steaks In Tomato Sauce With Brown Rice

Ingredients

Ingredients for steaks in tomato sauce:
4 steaks (Milanese style)
8 cloves of garlic, cut in half
1 inch bell pepper, sliced into ½ strips
1 cup of water
2 medium carrots, cut into circles
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper
1 teaspoon of dry basil
1 tablespoon of canola oil
Ingredients for brown rice:
2 teaspoons of salt
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
4 cups of water
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Directions for steaks in tomato sauce:

Sprinkle salt and black pepper on both sides of your steaks.

Put the skillet over medium heat. When it's hot (2-3 min on medium heat) , add oil, steaks, garlic, peppers, and carrots.

After 3 minutes turn your steaks to brown on the other side for 3 minutes, too. In the mean while, in a small bowl combine crushed tomatoes, dry basil, and pour the mixture over the steaks.

Cover and simmer over low medium heat for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve with a side of brown rice, mashed potatoes, or whatever you prefer eating steak with . Cabbage salad with red kidney beans is a nice compliment to this dinner plate.

Directions for brown rice:

Soak the brown rice for half an hour in warm water.

Drain and saute for a few minutes on medium heat in vegetable oil. Add salt, black pepper, and ground cumin, then stir.

Turn the heat to high, add water, and bring to a boil. Stir, cover partially, and let it boil on high for 5 minutes.

Bring heat down to medium low, cover and cook for an additional 20 minutes, or until the rice is soft and all the water evaporates.

Remove from the heat and let stand covered for 10 minutes before serving.
