About
Friday nights are usually laid-back at our house. If we're home and not dining out or on a "date-night", we like to keep it simple. Watch a movie with a bowl of air-popped popcorn, after a fast and easy dinner.
Since implementing a vegan lifestyle, ordering a pizza in wouldn't work, plus I'm not "in the mood" for pizza - something I am very seldom "in the mood for", much to my husband's chagrin.
Even though it's Friday night, I still wanted to keep it healthy and easy and light, while honouring a favourite in our home, burgers.
Using the base from the curried meatballs the other night, I expanded on the TVP and oatmeal mix by adding some other herbs and spices, but still keeping it really simple.
You can use the basic TVP and oatmeal mix as a start to any TVP binding replacement. Change a few ingredients and make Italian-geared meatballs, or add other spices to this mix for a different flavoured burger.
"Montreal Steak-spice" would be a good addition for something different. Even smoked nutritional yeast, or BBQ sauce in the mix (just adjust the liquid content of the mix to accommodate the liquid in the BBQ sauce).
I did not cook the burgers over a grill, mainly because I don't have any charcoal, but you can certainly experiment and try it out. If you do, I'd love for you to comment below and tell me how it worked out for you. Make sure your grill is well oiled and very hot to ensure the burger doesn't stick and fall apart.
Something I am discovering with vegan cooking, the same as with any other cooking, it's all about experimenting and trial and error. Have fun with it, let your imagination go wild, and simply create.
Happy Cooking, Happy Eating!
