With April 15th only a few hours away (I hope your taxes are done...) it's time to think about blowing off steam. Tax Season can be an incredibly stressful time of year, and not just for us plebeians who owe money this year, think about the life of a CPA between March and April -- eek! So tidy up your tax return, sit down and unwind with The Income Tax!
The funky baby sister of the Bronx (a cousin of the Manhattan), the Income Tax features both sweet and dry vermouth, gin, fresh squeezed OJ and bitters.
The Income Tax Cocktail
1 1/2 ounces gin
1/4 ounce sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce dry vermouth
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed orange juice (or the juice from 1/4 orange - fresh is important!)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled half-way with ice. Shake. Serve in a 4-ounce martini glass, garnish with an orange wheel or twist. With proportions everywhere from 3/4 ounce each gin, sweet & dry vermouth and orange juice all the way up to 2 ounces of gin and 1/4 ounce of the remaining ingredients, this cocktail has a lot of room for preferences.
You like gin? Go with the 2-1/4-1/4-1/2 ratio. Like vermouth? Go with 1-1/2-1/2-1.
