To commemorate the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th, The Macallan distillery has produced a limited run (1,000 bottles) of their single-malt scotch. As they did for Prince Charles and Lady Diana's wedding in 1981, Macallan is creating a special blend - formed by marrying the contents of two particular casks. While the 1981 commemorative scotch combined casks from 1948 and 1961 (Prince Charles and Lady Diana's respective birth years), the 2011 edition combines casks bottled on April 29th in 1996 & 1999. The Macallan even made a point of enlisting David Holmes, the creative force behind the 1980s ad campaign and 1981 design, to design the bottle and packaging.
While this bottling sold out within days, "the single malt gives abundant wood spices combining with orange zest, floral and barley to produce a creamy overtone," notes Macallan, and would love to read your tasting notes if you happened to acquire a bottle.
