Hemp is a superfood that has been harvested for over 10,000 years and definitely deserves its own weeklong celebration. Many U.S. farmers in the are pushing to get hemp it re-legalized, currently most of the products come from Canada. Although hemp has a famous cousin that is controversial for its mind altering properties, it does not alter the mind, instead it nourishes the body with a perfect balance of Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids. Hemp seeds are a rich source of protein, fat, and fiber and can be made into an oil, butter, or protein powder. The oil can also be used to make natural body lotions, lip balms, and sun screens.

Beyond hemp's health benefits, are the fact that its natural fibers are an ideal source for paper, clothing, and building materials. It's also packed with nutrients that nourish the soil and can be easily planted organically. Since this versatile crop can feed, clothe, house and nourish the population, it's legalization is a cause worth getting behind. Write letters to Congress and your local newspapers, and let them know it's time to bring back hemp!
