A new study by Andrews University finds that regularly eating walnuts can help boost inferential reasoning, or the ability to tell true from false.
According to research that appears in the British Journal of Nutrition, the study gave two groups of students banana bread for eight weeks. One set of students had banana bread with walnuts; the others did not. Students were then given a short examination at the end of the study where they had to rate the veracity of a series of statements. Those that ate walnuts tended to perform better.
"Students consuming walnuts showed a significant improvement in inference after consuming one-half cup of walnuts daily for eight weeks," Peter Pribis, associate professor of nutrition and wellness, said. "Walnuts will obviously not make you a critical thinker; this comes after years of studying. However, students and young professionals in fields that involve a great deal of critical thinking or decision-making could benefit from regularly eating walnuts."
We already knew that walnuts were a power food, so this leaves so doubt. Grab some walnuts!
