A Michelin star is one of the highest honors a chef can attain. A new guide is published each year, including only the best selections. According to the guide, one star signifies a "very good cuisine in its category," a two-star ranking indicates "excellent cuisine, worth a detour," and three stars are awarded to restaurants offering "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey."
