The GMO backlash continues as environmental and food safety groups filed a lawsuit which demands that the government stop allowing GMO crops to be planted in wild life refuge areas.
The majority of the crops have been Monsanto's "Round up Ready", which are designed to tolerate large amounts of pesticides and eventually lead to "superweeds".
"Allowing pesticide-promoting, GE (genetically engineered) crops degrades these vital ecosystems and is antithetical to the basic purpose of our refuge system. Worse still is approval without meaningful review of these crops' impacts," one of the attornies said.
The groups are accusing the government of violating environmental laws by allowing the biotech crops to be planted without proper reviews.
