Japanese advertising agency I&S BBDO Tokyo has created an unusual set of symbolic designs for Umino Seaweed to help the seaweed company recover from the sales aftereffects of the 2011 Japanese tsunami. Designs that represent longevity, luck, beauty and happiness were scored into the nori using a laser cutter. Umino Seaweed's designs were modeled after classic Japanese patterns such as sakura (cherry blossoms), mizutama (water drops), asanoha (hemp), kikkou (turtle seashell) and kumikikkou (tortoiseshell).
The etched designs create a beautiful look to traditional maki rolls, adding dimension and a one-of-a-kind aesthetic. For more artistic sushi creations, check out these delicious designs.
