This year, the city of Los Angeles hosts their first annual Beerathon on March 3, 2012. Modeled after a typical 26 mile marathon, contestants will visit 26 different bars throughout the city where they will sample a variety of brews (all served in the traditional 12 ounce glass) while listening to music performed by local bands and DJs.
The course has not been announced yet but contestants are assured that " a certified Beerathon Course Map Veteran" who has "extensive experience planning prior Beerathons to include only the most fun venues" will create something worthy of such an event. The Los Angeles craft beer scene has grown significantly in the last couple of years and contestants are anticipating a chance to taste the signature beers of the region.
Clearly, 26 beers is a lot of alcohol to drink in one day; however, the organization advocates people to participate anyway. They reason that "you’re an American, damn it! We accept challenges – no matter how difficult the odds. But seriously, you’ll have a ton of fun, whether or not you finish." No participant is obligated to finish. The best part-besides the beer- no running is required.
