Frozen Screwdriver: A Creamsicle With a Kick

August 7, 2014

Beat the heat with this refreshing frozen vodka cocktail! We love a good screwdriver cocktail, but this blended version takes this classic cocktail to a whole new level! Agave nectar and low-fat ice cream are blended with vodka, orange juice, and ice to create a frothy, dessert-like beverage but without the high calories of most blended cocktails (only 230 calories per 10-ounce serving). This refreshing cocktail is perfect for an outdoor brunch or luncheon!

Tip: We keep our vodka in the freezer because we love the way it turns deliciously thick and syrupy when frozen, perfect for making adult smoothies like this cocktail or adding it to ice cream and sorbet recipes (it doesn’t take much and prevents ice crystals from forming, resulting in beautifully smooth ice cream).

For a lower sugar version, sweeten with your favorite sweetener (or skip it altogether) and use a low-sugar or diabetic-friendly ice cream.

3 servings

4   fl oz vodka
11⁄2   c orange juice
1   tbsp agave nectar
1   c  low-fat vanilla ice cream
11⁄2   c ice cubes
Orange slices for garnish

Note: this recipe uses a Blendtec blender, a commercial-quality blender.  We love it because it powers through tough ingredients with ease, like ice, leaving no chunks. Nothing but smooth! If you don’t have a Blendtec, simply add all ingredients to your regular blender and process until smooth.

If using a Blendtec, add ingredients to FourSide or WildSide jar in order listed and secure lid. Select "Sauces," garnish with an orange slice, and serve.
