The game day table is incomplete without a tray of fiery red chicken wings nestled between ordinary celery sticks and carrots with a creamy pool of blue cheese dressing on the side. Buffalo wings are a staple on Super Bowl Sunday and homemade ones trump store bought wings every time. This simple and straightforward recipe combines different hot sauces with butter, vinegar and garlic powder. The hot and crispy wings are tossed in the sauce and served immediately.
Traditionally, chicken wings are deep fried but if you are looking to save on calories, baking them is a healthier alternative. If you decide to go with this cooking method, bring the wings up to room temperature before placing them into a oven. Allow the wings to marinate in the sauce for at least 30 minutes or, if you can, overnight is best. To achieve crispy skin, broil them for approximately 10 to 12 minutes on each side. The high temperature coupled with a shortened cooking time results in juicy, golden brown wings.
