The Kentucky Derby is one of our favorite celebrations of the year as it gives us a fun excuse to celebrate in true Southern style. This Saturday, the 142nd Kentucky Derby will commence and we’re featuring a series of recipes from the executive chef at Churchill Downs that encompass Derby traditions and Southern flavors. No Derby party would be complete without Mint Julep, so be sure to have plenty of bourbon and mint on hand!
Kick off the race with a simple, yet flavor Butterbean and Radish Salad and pair it with an out of this world dish of Shrimp and Smoked Grits with Tasso Gravy. The Pan Roasted Chicken with Moonshine Raisin Sauce is sure to have your crowd cheering for more. Finally, finish this winning meal with an easy to make Blackberry Cobbler with Lemon-Rosemary Buttermilk Biscuit Topping.
The Prospector’s Julep
We love this modern twist on the classic julep recipe which adds a splash of refreshing ginger liqueur.
Shrimp with Smoked Grits and Tasso Gravy
One bite of these creamy, smoky, goat cheese-loaded grits with sweet shrimp and spicy pork and coffee-based gravy will have you saying giddy up!
Pan Roasted Chicken with Moonshine Raisin Sauce
It’s the sauce that makes this chicken dish a winner. If you can't find moonshine, no worries, simply use an inexpensive whiskey.
Blackberry Cobbler with Lemon-Rosemary Buttermilk Biscuit Topping
This delish cobbler is topped with amazing lemon rosemary buttermilk biscuits. Fresh blackberries are best, but the season is still a bit too early in most places, so go for frozen ones but thaw them first.
