The United States has joined more than 100 other countries in agreeing to follow labeling guidelines for genetically modified (GM) food. This complete reversal of position came during the annual Codex summit in Geneva. The new Codex agreement means:
any country wishing to adopt GM food labeling will no longer face the threat of a legal challenge from the World Trade Organization (WTO)
For consumers, this means that if they eat GM foods, they will know and be able to report to regulators if they have allergic or adverse reactions.
