Walnuts look like little brains, and they happen to be one of the best sources of the health powerhouse omega-3 fatty acid, DHA. Typically, DHA is found in oily fish and is less common in vegetarian foods, so walnuts are a smart choice for those looking to boost their intake of this heart, brain, and joint fatty acid.
Walnut butter is delicious and can be used on pancakes, hot cereal, apples, pears, or just straight out of the jar.
1/2 cup toasted black walnuts
1/2 pound room temperature butter
1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
1 teaspoon lemon zest
juice of 1/2 lemon
pinch of salt
