Inspiration for winemakers often comes from working in the vineyards, but many vintners credit a background in music for helping them become better at their craft. According to an article in the New York Times, winemakers like Jeff Smith of Hourglass Vineyard in Napa Valley see parallels between creating music and creating wine: "With wine, the medium and disciplines are different, but the creative process is the same." And whether providing a background cadence to get through unglamorous tasks like sanitizing bottles or, more poetically, providing inspiration for blending wines, little work gets done in a winery without music.
Does music play a similar role in the kitchen for you?
